Billy Chan completed his undergraduate education at the University of California Los Angeles, where he graduated with honors. He attended law school at the University of California Berkeley Boalt Hall, which places 8th in the US News and World Report rankings of top law schools.
Billy started his legal career as an intellectual property associate at the law firm Hanson, Bridgett, Marcus, Vlahos & Rudy, LLP, one of San Francisco's oldest and most respected firms. In fact, he continues to maintain an Of Counsel relationship with Hanson Bridgett in order to serve the particular needs of a few of his clients that require the support of a large law firm. This is one example of how Billy will cater his services to fit the needs of specific clients.
Billy is an active member of the legal community. He currently serves as a Director on the Board of the Asian American Bar Association, and as Northern California's Regional Governor of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. He is the immediate past-president of the Filipino Bar Association of Northern California. His pro bono efforts include service as the Secretary of the Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce of Northern California and as the General Counsel of the Young Filipino Professionals Association. He has counseled many small businesses through Legal Services for Entrepreneurs, an economic justice project of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights, and his speaking engagements include legal workshops held by the Small Business Association, the Asian American Music Conference, and California Lawyers for the Arts.
